The PopulationWithin a population graph, there are three different brackets. The first is the Baby bracket, ranging from 0 to 14 year of age. The second is the Bearing Bracket, ranging from 15 to 64 years of age. The final bracket is the Old Bracket, ranging from 65 and older. The Bearing Bracket contains all of the people in the work force. As the Bearing bracket is larger than the Baby bracket and the Old bracket combined, it means that there is a low dependancy load in Halifax. This is very good for the city's economy because it means that there are less people relaying on others to support them. Although this might be ideal right now, in a few years this might change. The shape of Halifax's population pyramid is not consistent. This means that when all of the people from 45 to 64 years of age move into the Old Bracket, there will not be many people left to help support them. This means that the pyramid is unstable.
Although the pyramid looks like the population might be increasing because of the bulge at to 20 to 29 age section, this might not look as it appears. This bulge is probably due to the fact that there are three major Universities in Halifax, which would account for the anomaly. It the bulge was removed, it would become clear that the population of Halifax it steadily decreasing annually. This presents a problem for the city for many reasons. The older people cannot be supported and the livelihood and spirit of the city declines along with the population. Facts
